Our story

How Hickman Farms began

Hickman Farms started in 2009 with a simple idea: raise a family close to the land and grow as much of our own food as we could. What began with a few garden rows and a handful of hens has grown, one season at a time, into the farm we have today.

Over the years we added pigs, planted flower beds, learned to tap our maple trees and started canning everything the garden would give us. Each new project taught us something, and most of them started at the kitchen table with someone saying, “We could try that.”

Today the whole family has a hand in the work, from splitting firewood and boiling sap to picking violets for jelly and mixing up a fresh batch of lip balm. We share our body care products with our neighbors because we believe simple, natural products should be easy to find close to home.

Through good years and hard ones, our faith in God has carried us. We start our days with prayer, give thanks for every harvest and trust Him with what we can't control, like the weather.

Thank you for supporting our small farm. God bless.

Trying something new

At the vendor fair

We set up a table at a local vendor fair to share our handmade body care with the community. It was a chance to meet our neighbors, talk about what we make and learn a lot along the way.

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:22

Maple sugaring

Late winter, when the days warm and the nights still freeze, the sap starts running. Tapping, hauling and boiling is a family job from start to finish.

Garden & flowers

The garden feeds us all summer, with plenty left over for canning. The flower beds are there because they make everyone happy.

The animals

Pigs, hens and the daily chores that go with them.

From the kitchen

Jelly from the yard's wildflowers, bread from the oven and a pantry full of jars.

Building & chores

Firewood, fixing up, building new and keeping things running, with plenty of help.
